South Africa has a dire shortage of dermatologists. According to the DSSA, there are only 179 practicing dermatologists in the country, resulting in excessive treatment delays. On average, patients wait 8-12 weeks to see a dermatologist. Dr Derma was founded by Dr Willie Visser, head of dermatology at the Stellenbosch University, and colleagues in 2020 to address the need for a safe and secure treatment alternative. Since inception, the practice has grown to 90+ dermatologists nationwide with 40,000+ patients treated.
